I find jaws 8 works very well for me. That's just what I think.

What on Earth does SMA stand for?

Jaws 9 works with Vista, and has a few bug fixes with Microsoft word. That's about it.

jaws nine for me has been nothing but trouble. I've become so pissed off with it.

Wow, jaws works great for me. The support in microsoft word is amazing compared to 8, no sluggish responsiveness anymore.

Well I was having problems at first, but I seem to have illiminated most of them by loading jaws manually after I log in, rather than having it start as a service.

I like it for the most part, but it seems to have some issues on my end with the Windows Mail client. I'll press tab to open a message like I've always done, and Jaws loses focus and wants to jump back in to my folder tree view, so that I have to relocate the message and reopen it. Then when I relocate it and open it again I have to read it manually because it just sits there and won't read it automaticly.

I had the beta of JAWS 9, but I opted not to buy and went back to version 8. For me, 8 worked fine and was very stable. I don't have Vista and don't use Word on the machine at home, so whatever fixes were trumpeted for 9 wouldn't impact me anyway. Unless I am totally missing the point, this needn't have been a full version upgrade.

well, if you've got gmail, jaws 9 has some awesome support for it.

I did the Beta and it has more fixes then just for word. If your using office 07 and anything in that program it is much easier. For email Outlook 07 calendar works now perfectly, so does the address book and a few other things. On messenger you can read your contact card, that wasn't possible. Also if your a braill user it fixed lots of things, so it's worth a full version, and if you already have the SMA for it then why not? I liked it and will upgrade shortly. The only thing I don't like is the release timing right at Christmas, but that is due to my celebrating this holliday along with some others in the December month. Almost forgot an important improvement is in the installing yourself without help. They've improved this even though it was possible before it's a 5 minute snap now.

Ah forgot about Vista it's completely usable now. It was if you had 8.0V but now it just works.

I've got the demonstration version of jaws 9 and I can't really tell much of a difference if any than other versions of jaws.

I like it, but like someone else said...I don't allow it to run as a service, and things work better because of that. However, here is a question. Is anyone running Norton Antivirus with Jaws 7 or higher? If so, does your Jaws crash when you scan a file? Oh, and what version of Norton are you running? I was running Norton Antivirus2002 with Jaws 7.0, then 8.0 and now 9.0 and no matter what every time I iniciate a scan, and than click finish Jaws wants to crash. Any ideas? Would getting a newer version of Norton help? Also, so no one panics...Even though it was an older norton my definitions were still up to date...

Well my personal advice would be to ditch norton. Norton has fallen down in quallity the last few years, and really there're better products out there. (I'd argue that some of the free ones work better than the norton that you have to pay a good chunk of change for.)

JAWS 9 works ok with me but it doesn't seem to like my net. Really slow but that may be my connection or something like that. Norton, get rid, it's just hateful! I'd recommend AVG free.

Post 21 by cattleya (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Tuesday, 11-Dec-2007 6:20:22

Hmm, before I read these I went ahead and bought the new Norton, and so far I haven't had a problem scanning or anything. Hmm, I've tried AVG in the past, and didn't particularly like it, and I don't like mccaffee either. Tried it recently, and it f***ed my entire computer... But, so far no more lockups.
